Cookery
Cooking is extremely popular with all pupils. The children have turned out tasty muffins, pizza & cookies.
School tour
Last year, the school organised a trip to Trabolgan. The swimming pool with wave machine was very popular. The pupils also had great fun trying out new activities such as Archery and Abseiling.
This years trip to Tralee promises to be even better!
Summer Project
This years Summer Project will engage the children in the care and growth of their own potatoe garden. Drawing inspiration from the Green Schools Program, Science, History and Geography, the children have dug out and planted the garden with four varieties of potatoes.
With the first variety, Kerrs Pinks (a traditional variety of the Western seaboard), we have conducted an experiment where we have planted three beds. The first bed has been fertilsed with seaweed from our local beach, the second bed has been fertilised with purchased compost and the third bed has been left without any addition. We plan to monitor the progress of all three beds.
The other three varities are historic seeds purchased from The Irish Seed Savers Association which the school recently joined. Arran Banners, Sharpe's Express and Rattes have also been planted. Next year, the school plans to extent the vegetable garden and to plant Lumpers (the most common variety before The Famine).
